Girlfriends

I have said many times that the Lord gave me brothers, but I have managed to find my sisters in a variety of places. I have several girlfriends scattered across the country, from AZ to DC to Utah, to the LBC, NorCal, in San Jose, and right here in the East Bay, that help me through times of trial, celebrate with me, and generally set me straight when I need it (thank you Carrie, you are especially good at that). I sit here tonight thinking of these remarkable women and the fun times we've had together and the different paths our lives have diverged on. But I know I could call them and visit them, and our friendships remain. I am feeling a great deal of love tonight for the wonderful ladies that I have been blessed to know and love. So thanks for your friendship and everything else. It truly means the world to me.

Girls Night

Kevin is camping with the Scouts, so Maggie and I settled in for a night of of indulgence (although all other offers were appreciated!). We had some Chinese for dinner, watched a little Grey's Anatomy and other girly TV, and had a little pampering session. I had a facial and exfoliation, while Maggie had a deep conditioning session. She is much softer and fluffier now. But it was a very relaxing evening of girly sloth. I love those nights.

Squirrel!

There is a squirrel that hangs out in our backyard. Every time Maggie sees him, she goes nuts. She chases him around the yard, bounding and leaping over bushes and plants, crossing distances in the air I didn't think a dog that size could do. Or should be able to do. But that stupid squirrel just runs around the edge of the fence and jumps along the trees, chittering at her; which just makes her more frustrated. He definitely knows how to mock. But every time I see her go after that squirrel, all I think of is Doug, from Pixar's UP. Squirrel! It must be a dog thing.

Misinformation

The subtitle of my blog promises "exciting updates from the other end of the state." I am sorry inform you all that I am apparently unable to keep that promise. I have no exciting updates. And no expectation of anything exciting in the next few days. Not even any fun conversations to stick up here. I'm boring. I apologize.

A little clarification

A little correction. I do want to tour the Winchester House. I think it has an interesting story and background, and that the architecture is unique, to say the least. But it is NOT a haunted house. Mrs. Winchester thought that SHE was haunted, but really, she was just crazy. As a result, the house is kind of crazy. Nevertheless, I do want to take a tour of the house. It has been on my list of things to do for a very long time. And I still want to find a REAL haunted house/building and tour that.

Happy Birthday Kevin!

Happy Birthday to my very fabulous husband, Kevin. He is always up for an adventure, and will go along with an idea. He supports me and helps me, and brings me flowers when I've had a bad day, or for no particular reason. Best of all, he knows I'm addicted to the dried mangos at Costco, and always manages to pick up a couple bags for me when he is there. You are a great gardener, and a handy guy to have around the house for painting, hanging stuff, bugs, and so forth. These last few months of being married to you have been pretty fantastic and thanks for being the wonderful guy that is you. I love you lots and lots! Happy Birthday and enjoy the next wonderful year.

Haunted Houses

I am interested in ghost stories. I always have been. The stories that there is something that "plays the piano" for all the guests after they have gone to bed, shuts doors, opens windows, moves furniture, stuff like that. I would love to go on a tour of a haunted building and see what there is to see. I grew up in an area that is full of historic houses and has lots of great stories. I need to find a place that has a tour, and is appropriately scary. None of this Haunted Castle at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk stuff. My dad has built better when I was a kid for the church Halloween party. No, I need a real, honest-to-goodness haunted building or haunted house. There has to be one in the Bay Area. And the Winchester House doesn't count. It isn't haunted; it's just weird.

Happy Birthday Jeff!

Kerry, myself, and the birthday boy (Jeff)
Happy Birthday to my brother, Jeff! He is twenty-nine today. In that time period he has met a beautiful and fabulous girl named Kerry whom we all love as a member of the Klima/Davis clan, become a college graduate, a published author, and has turned into a pretty responsible adult. Jeff is one of my biggest defenders. He has my back no matter what and is a brother that any girl can be proud to have. We were best friends growing up (even if I did pull his hair when he came home from the hospital), and we remain friends now. So happy birthday Jeff! You are the best of brothers and I love you lots.

Labor Day Weekend

We went to the Beach House for Labor Day Weekend. And all we did was sit in the living room, watch TV, read books, and walk on the beach with Maggie. There was a bonfire on Saturday night, with Kevin's brothers coming down with their girlfriends. We hung out and talked, stayed up way too late, and had lots of fun. The entire weekend was perfect, and relaxing. I love lazy weekends. We also took lots of photos, but they were all of Maggie. It was her first trip to the beach. : )

Checking out the beach.
Acting as the Beach House watchdog.
Checking out this whole ocean thing.

Go Rivercats!

Robert is addicted to baseball. So Kevin and I drove up to West Sac last week to watch the Sacramento Rivercats in their last home game of the season with the Penrods. It was a great game, with the Rivercats winning against the Fresno Grizzlies 10-3, fireworks at the end of the night, and beautiful weather to top it all off. It was Robert's first baseball game, and he loved it; he wanted to go down and play first base, and kept trying to emulate the pitcher. His baby brother, Josh, could care less. But Robert got to meet Digger, the Rivercat mascot, and got his autograph. It was pretty entertaining. A good time was had by all.
