haunted appliances

i'm pretty sure there is a ghost in the microwave.  when you open the door, it turns on and starts spinning, all by itself.  when you close the door, it stops.  when you set the time, it works just fine.  it is just that weirdness when you open the microwave door.  i'm thinking i need to call ghostbusters.

grand jury

remember this memorable event?  two years after it happened, i went before a grand jury to testify as to what i witnessed during an armed robbery in fremont, ca.  it was a little weird, and nothing like i've ever seen on tv.  the judge didn't wear a robe; he had on a bright red bowling shirt with black stripes.  the da had on my favorite outfit of the day; blue seersucker suit with a navy polkadot tie.  the da asked me a series of questions regarding everything i experienced that night, i gave my answers, and fifteen minutes later i was out the door and headed home.  hopefully, this is the last i ever have to deal with that situation.  the wheels of justice do indeed grind exceedingly slow.

throwback thursday

i was looking through some old photos today, and could not help but reflect on the changes our little bean has gone through in the past year.  i swear i was pregnant for nine years, but the past twelve months?  they've flown by in the blink of an eye (even though some days seem to have thirty-seven hours in them).  but mostly, it's been good times.

august 6, 2012: two days old (the day we brought lily home).

july 4, 2013: eleven months old.

talk-atrocities

about a month ago a member of the bishopric asked me to give a talk in church on july 14 (today).  i agreed, and he said he'd get back to me to confirm that, 1) i would be speaking, and 2) what the topic was.  i never heard from him, and the incident faded from my mind.  fast-forward to last night at 10 pm (when i'm putting the bulletin together for sacrament meeting) and see that i am giving a talk after all.  color me shocked.  so, i put something together and gave a talk today.  it went pretty well, but it was a 12-hour turnaround from learning about the talk, picking my topic, and putting together a cohesive 15 minutes.  yikes.  super glad i inherited my dad's "last-minute pressure test" genes.

4th of july

we spent the 4th of july in aptos at the beach house for my family reunion.  it was 102* in livermore, and 79* in aptos.  score!  it was the perfect week to escape the tri-valley area.  and the beach weather was so nice, i actually swam in the ocean for the first time in years.  it was finally warm enough.  it was an incredibly relaxing week and good times as always.

photo shoot on the beach!

almost every night, my parents stop and watch the sun set together.  it's one of my favorite things about them.

proper celebration!

festively attired

my sil made patriotic jello.  it tastes amazing!

4th of july bonfire

nothing like illegal fireworks on the beach to celebrate the birth of our nation.

lily enjoyed a little aunt/uncle/niece time.  and learned to high-five.

friends with flannigan

some friends of kevin's have baby pygmy goats on their property, so lily and i went out to play with them.  lily made friends with flannigan the goat.  i would love to have a pygmy goat someday; they are super adorable.  and double as lawnmowers.
