my "underage boyfriend"

some good friends of ours have a four year old son who i adore.  and he loves me right back.  i call him my "underage boyfriend" (ubf) and kevin is well aware that in fourteen years i'm leaving him for my ubf.  sometimes my ubf calls me just to chat, calls to make sure i'm coming to a party, he called to make sure i was ok after my car broke down, and invites me over to play.  he is one of my favorite little people ever, and i can't wait to see him grow up.

one of my favorite ubf moments came last night via text from my ubf's mom.

ubf: i wonder what the atheys are doing tonight?

completely random and out of the blue.  i really do heart him.

alien baby

lily has been a gem all weekend.  and i'm not even being sarcastic.  she's napped, she's slept through the night, she's been cheerful and interactive, and not fussy or whiny at all.  at all, people!  it's been kind of a miracle around our house.  we're enjoying her, where there have been days we tolerate her only because we're contractually obligated.  we had a family outing to san francisco on friday (more on that later) and an incredibly full day on saturday, where lily spent most of her time in the carseat or a shopping cart seat.  and she was an angel the entire time!  it's like an alien being took over her body and is so happy to be a human they are being nothing but a joy and a delight.

there are moments (just moments, mind you) where i think i could do this again.  and then i read past journal entries and remember why i cling to my "one and done" mantra.

family nights

family walks and letting lily run around the cultural hall at church seem to comprise our fhe's lately. lily has become enamored of the stage (grandpa ken is so proud) and loves having space to run around in.  maggie loves being able to go where she wants (in the confines of a very large space) and actually enjoys playing chase with lily.  it's the only time those two really get along.  other than when lily drops her food for the pup's enjoyment.  watching her little personality come out and seeing her becoming more of a kid and less of a baby is so exciting.  (although sometimes i long for the days when i could put her somewhere and not worry about her moving around).  but all in all she's a bundle of fun and we enjoy her (mostly) every day.

baseball time

lily experienced her first baseball game and tailgating recently.  she loved running around the parking lot, enjoyed the people in the stands cooing at her, and then was generally bored by the entire experience.  it was an a's game, so maybe that accounts for it?  we're a giants household, but we had free tickets and an opportunity to spend the afternoon with some friends, so we just went with it.

a little birthday celebration

kevin had a birthday a couple weeks ago, and, while that doesn't usually generate a post in and of itself (he's a little attention-shy that way), i had to remark on the fabulousness of our friends in helping make the celebration amazing and fun.  we had a little party for him, with a surprise fancy root beer tasting (courtesy of vanessa and robb), and an amazing pinata made by the fabulous and talented bethany.  it was such a fun night with good company and lots of laughter.  thanks, peeps, for helping make it a fun night!

fhe

lily is a girl who likes to roam, and she likes a lot of space to do that roaming in.  we wound up taking her and her little shopping cart to the church building last night for fhe and just set her free.  it's hard to say which she loves more; carts in target or her personal cart.  as long as she is pushing something and feels like a "big person," i don't think she has too much of a preference.
