the evening started out so promising. we went grocery shopping, stocking up in preparation of our four-day weekend. lily was our helper, running around with her purse, carrying things to the cart, etc. while looking at jammies for her, kevin was holding her hand. lily decided that was a good time to drop her feet from under her and dangle. this resulted in (as we learned at the er), "nursemaids elbow," which is basically a dislocated elbow. after much screaming and crying, we headed to the er from the grocery store (after a quick stop home to put away the perishables, of course). we had "called ahead" through the advice nurse, and were taken straight back to the er and put directly in a room. (future note, a crying baby/toddler in an er is like a fast pass at disneyland...you go straight to the front of the line). the doctor came in, popped lily's elbow back in place, she screamed and cried for one minute (i timed it), and then all of a sudden was smiles and giggles and jumping on the bed. i would not have believed it if i hadn't witnessed it myself. it was like the past two-and-one-half hours had never occurred. hopefully this is the last er visit (i only ever had one as a kid, so i like to think we got lily's out of the way early).

big helper at the store (i love that she carries her purse around. she even slings it over her shoulder like me. proud mama moment.) |

unhappy (but finally quiet) baby |

one minute later (literally) she's all smiles and happy. |

walking out of the hospital under her own steam |

this is actually the beginning of the evening; she was very intent and focused on her book as we drove to the store. it was hilarious. |
