Car wash

I am not a big car-washer. I never have been, and I'm pretty sure this drives Kevin nuts. I grew up in one of the rainiest areas of the state, if not the country, and what was the point of car washing? If you wash it, it rains, if you don't wash it, it still rains. Either way, your car is always pretty clean looking (if you are doing just basic city driving). Here, however, there isn't a great deal of rain. And so my car can get pretty dirty. But I don't really care (hence the Kevin being driven nuts part). He's actually come and traded cars with me at work just so mine could be washed. A nice gesture, yes, but I'm pretty sure it was driven (ha ha) more by the fact that he was tired of seeing my dusty little Peanut in the driveway next to his shiny car. But as luck would have it; it rained for a couple days, and so my car got washed.

Sad to say good-bye

I have had the same bathroom rugs since I moved away from home (seven years ago) and they just started to fall apart about a month ago. Since then, I've been on the lookout for new ones that go with my existing decor. I've checked all the usual and not so usual places, but there was nothing to be found in the color I needed. I finally found some that were close, and OK, but still, the perfectionist in me is not quite satisfied. I am disheartened that the original rugs fell apart to a degree that I recognize as ridiculous, but they coordinated perfectly. I know that stuff falls apart eventually, and that these are fairly minor in the scheme of what needs to be replaced. But I like my stuff, and I like it to stay the way it is. Hopefully these new rugs will work out; color-wise and in longevity.

Busy Weekends Full of Fun

This past weekend Kevin and I snuck down to SoCal for a variety of events. My brother, Chris, came down from Eureka and road tripped with us the rest of the way to LA. We spent a day with the brothers on Friday, went to Disneyland on Saturday (Kevin has never been to California Adventure, and only went to D-land once when he was 13--tragedy!), celebrated Jeff's book signing event, and then saw Vanessa's parents give their homecoming talk (they just returned from a mission in Ecuador) and spent some time with her family. Then we hopped in the car and headed north again. Chris is always an entertaining car companion, and it was exciting to share the happiest place on earth, one of my favorite places, with Kevin. As an added bonus, some of our friends from the Bay Area were also at Disneyland that same day, and we met up with them that evening. Good times were had by all.

Lights

There are only two of us in the household, but somehow, every single light seems to get turned on throughout the course of the evening. The office light stays on, all three living room lights are on, the dining room light is on, the kitchen light, the light in the hallway; they are all on for one reason or another. Why don't they get turned off behind us? I go around before going to bed and wonder that every night. For two people, there is a lot of wattage being spread across our house. I swear there is a light monster out there who turns on the lights for us and just lets them sit. That is the only explanation. I don't understand how two adults can leave so many lights burning.

Hey, look! A display of forty copies of the Dead Janitor's Club, authored by Jeff Klima (who just happens to be my brother). : )

Feel free to head on down to Barnes and Noble on Saturday, October 16, 2-5 PM, to have a copy of the Dead Janitors Club personally signed by the author. Don't have a copy already? Don't worry! You can buy one while you are there and get it signed by the hilarious and brilliant Jeff Klima!

Maggie's First Ticket

We were gone from the house all day on Saturday, and had to leave Maggie outside. Apparently she did nothing but bark while we were gone, because we came home at 11 PM, and found a little note from animal control, telling us to get her barking under control. The neighbors did not appreciate her twilight bark, a la 101 Dalmations. So we sat down and had a little talk with her. Hopefully next time she'll behave herself and won't earn another ticket while we are gone for a day (or more).
