A very long time ago, my great-great-aunt Marnie made a christening gown for my grandfather. He wore it for his christening, my mom and all her siblings wore it when they were baptized as babies, and my brothers and I all wore it for our blessings. Now that I'm expecting a kid, she gets to wear it for her blessing. I'm kind of excited for that little bit of nostalgia. I'm hoping it fits because it just isn't the type of thing you could alter. We'll just have to see how it goes. But it's a little bit of history that I am excited to pass on to my kid.
I realize that we are a long time away from the kid even being born, much less close to the blessing, but I'm a planner, and this is the type of thing we do. We plan ahead.

Eh, I know it still feels a long way off, but I thin you'll find you're closer than you realize.
If it doesn't fit, maybe take it to Jill Harwood. She might have some ideas that could alter enough to fit without making it look different or anything, ya know? I would love for something like that for my kids! I do have the gown Madie was blessed in, which is WAY too big, so I may have to bring it in a little. Then maybe I can convince Mike that it's manly enough for an infant boy to be blessed in as well.
That's super neat. Jeff's folks still have the blessing outfit he was blessed in. Him, his brother and all his nephews. But not our boys. We had our own already. Plus, all those kids were small babies. Like in the 6 lb range. Mine have all been at smallest a pound bigger. That and I just wanted my own outfit that was special for MY boys - not one that every male in the family had used since forever. Maybe I would have felt different if it had belonged to my brothers and wasn't coming from his mom (who hates me) but I doubt it. Which I suppose is weird for me, someone who is really big on tradition and passing things down and I wanted my own NEW outfit. Weird. I can't wait to see your fantastic gown! I bet it's gorgeous!
